Unstable grounds – On intermediality

For better or for worse, classification is often considered necessary to understand and contextualize artistic, curatorial, and research practices. It certainly helps structure projects and secure funding. But when boundaries are blurred, artists, curators, and researchers may face challenges within traditional taxonomies of art and creative expression — in other words, it is a double-edged sword.

This discussion is not an attempt at rigid categorization. On the contrary, it aims to open a conversation about the potential inherent in crossing boundaries and engaging with methods or discourses that strict disciplinary constraints would otherwise preclude.
